The historic Kales building served as the original headquarters for the Kresge Corporation, at one time one of the largest retail companies in the Midwest.  The eighteen-story building, abandoned since the early 1980's, was converted into a mixed-use facility of 119 market-rate apartments and first floor retail stores.  This project serves as one of the first large-scale apartment renovation projects in Detroit and is located within walking distance to the new Comerica Park baseball field, Ford Field football stadium, Detroit Opera House and new world headquarters of Compuware Corporation.  The partners, Mansur and Ferlito Construction, are utilized a variety of funding sources including historic tax and Brownfield credits for the $16.8 million project.
